Arlington, VA (March 31, 2020) – Today, Advantia Health, a growing national provider of women’s healthcare, announced that its nearly half a million patients have access to telemedicine video visits. To meet the needs of patients during the COVID-19 pandemic, Advantia’s clinics in the Mid-Atlantic and the Midwest offer telemedicine for a wide range of appointments including all non-urgent and urgent video-capable visits. Many Advantia doctors and allied health professionals offered telemedicine prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, and now all 60 Advantia clinics have adopted virtual visits.
“Our patients need healthcare now more than ever. Telemedicine was built exactly for these types of situations,” said Advantia Chief Medical Officer Dr. Lisa Shah. “Continuing to care for women, especially pregnant women, while also keeping them safe is essential during this pandemic. With telemedicine access now at every single Advantia clinic, we are ensuring our patients nationwide will still receive their obstetrical, gynecological, primary care, and mental health care needs throughout these unprecedented times.”
“Advantia’s mission is to transform healthcare for all women,” said Sean Glass, CEO of Advantia Health. “By quickly making telemedicine available for as many appointments as possible, Advantia is ensuring that women have access to the high-quality healthcare they need, no matter what is going on in the world.”
Because many visits must still happen in-person, Advantia practice locations are taking additional precautions in their offices to keep patients and providers safe and to minimize potential exposure to and spread of COVID-19. These measures include frequent deep cleanings of all facilities with medical-grade cleaning products, screening all patients, providers, and employees before they come into practice buildings, and minimizing visitors and family members at appointments. At the same time, all Advantia care providers and employees are receiving multiple, ongoing protocol and preparation trainings for working during the COVID-19 pandemic. To take further preventive measures, starting today, all non-essential appointments with Advantia providers will be conducted through telemedicine in order to keep Advantia’s clinics as safe as possible for patients who need in-person care, especially pregnant women.
Appointments that will be conducted using telemedicine include non-urgent gynecological issues, contraception consultations, prescription refills, and COVID-19 assessments. Certain obstetrical appointments that require sonograms will continue to be held in-person as required to ensure women are getting needed prenatal care.
Advantia Health will work with patients to ensure they understand coverage and billing for new telehealth services. In many cases, there is no co-pay or deductible for video visits because many insurance companies and states have waived them to promote telemedicine.
Advantia’s telemedicine solutions also include its Pacify app, which provides 24/7 on-demand lactation support to new mothers. The City of Philadelphia announced last week that it will make Pacify available for free to all new mothers throughout the Coronavirus pandemic. Several studies have shown that using Pacify significantly improves health outcomes as well as customer satisfaction, and similar results are expected nationwide as virtual capabilities are dramatically expanded. Advantia anticipates that the influx of telemedicine visits due to COVID-19 will ultimately lead to faster widespread adoption of this technology and be a lasting asset for both patients and providers.
