Welcoming a new baby into your life can spark a wide variety of emotions. Before, during, and after having a baby, it’s not uncommon for parents to feel sad, worried, or alone. If you or someone you know are experiencing similar feelings, don’t be afraid to ask for help.

Postpartum Support International It is the vision of PSI that every woman and family worldwide will have access to information, social support, and informed professional care to deal with mental health issues related to childbearing. They provide direct peer support to families, train professionals, and are a bridge between the two. PSI offers a HelpLine and Online Support Meetings, as well as many resources on their website.

National Institutes of Health – Moms’ Mental Health Matters This resource explains the symptoms of postpartum depression and anxiety, as well as treatment options and other methods to help you feel better.

 

American Psychological Association – Postpartum depression: Causes, symptoms, risk factors, and treatment options This page explains the symptoms and risk factors of postpartum depression. It also offers additional resources to find help, including helplines and online resources.

The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists – Postpartum Depression This resource provides information about postpartum depression in an easy-to-read FAQ format. It also includes information about treatment options such as antidepressants and talk therapy, as well as preventative measures to take ahead of time.

Seven Starling Seven Starling provides virtual mental wellness care during the postpartum period. They’ve recently expanded their services to include pregnancy and pregnancy loss. They provide a variety of services including specialized therapists, group support, medication evaluation, and reflective exercises.

Postpartum Support Virginia – Resources & Fact Sheets This organization provides a peer-led warm line with both call and text capabilities. They also provide resources and fact sheets in addition to virtual support groups for all birthing people in Virginia.
